How do I successfully grasp information while reading a strategy book?

When I read any book but specifically business strategy books I grasp the concepts and understand the ideas but will I need to take notes of certain steps and tips to apply them in the future or will just understanding what I read allow me to apply those


Read the book jacket, first lines of chapters, Cliff notes AND most effectively, write a review of the book using quotes that you actually write down (or type). For me, writing = remembering. Specifically strategies - business, political, or personal
