Galesburg School Board member upset over consultant spending

At least one member of the District 205 Board of Education is not happy with the direction the school district is headed in preparation of a new strategic plan.
At the board’s meeting Monday, Robert Lindstrom said plans geared toward attracting more middle- and upper-class wage earners to the community because of the schools are irrelevant to the mission of the schools.
Lindstrom was upset that plans call for paying three consultants from North Carolina $35,000 to develop the Galesburg 2020 plan. The current strategic plan was put together in 2006 for the years 2007-2012.
Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill said the strategic plan will compare District 205 to school districts such as Morton, Dunlap and Geneseo. He said a “gap” analysis will look at what is offered by those communities Cahill said there will be a demographic study looking at a likely case scenario, a best case and a worst case.
In addition to paying for the North Carolina consultants, Lindstrom was upset at Cahill’s statement that “the focus is really ... what can we do as a school district to attract development within the community?”
